Jack A** Trail
The road in front of us as we started out...dry and sunny
And then this. End of the road for us.
Yesterday we took a drive to Ahtanum. Beautiful day, sunny and warm. We met up with a couple guys who were camping for the weekend. They had four wheelers and asked if we wanted to ride up Jack Ass Trail with them. So away we went. You can tell from the first picture everything looked great. But, as we got further up the mountain into higher altitude, the dirt road was wet from snow runoff....then we ran into 'the snow'. You would think from looking at the picture that it should have been no problem for us to plow through, right? After all, our jeep is 4 wheel drive, has great tires on it, and an even better driver at the wheel.
Pictures don't always tell the whole story, because the snow was saturated with water, and very slushy. You can see our tracks as we attempted to 'plow' through it, but to no avail. The four wheelers had no problem.....we, on the other hand, ended up having to back down the way we came...there was no place to turn around with the mountain on one side and a drop off on the other.
It was fun anyway just to get out! I did learn however, that riding in the jeep for a couple hours with my knee got pretty painful....so when we got home, I took a hot shower and had a Malibu martini with two olives.
This whole knee thing has turned in to a major pain in the A**!
Oh Yes!! And....Yet another use for duct tape. A cup holder!!!
Works pretty sweet.

Our Little Blue Jeep
Our little blue jeep now has:
- A brand new engine
- A brand new transmission
- Power steering
- New clutch
We took it out on Memorial Day to test the new engine....and it ran perfectly!
It was great for me just to get out and go somewhere. Fruit stands are popping up along the state routes with everything from asparagus, onions, and oranges....to pears, cherries, peaches and of course strawberries and raspberries. Of course, it's early in the season for those fruits but I can't wait!
We were invited Sunday evening for barbecued ribs...what a fun evening! Wonderful food, great people!
This week, it's back to physical therapy appointments (ugh) and wishing I was able to get around with no crutches. I seriously am concerned about ever being able to completely bend and straighten my leg again. The progress in therapy is very minimal...the doctor doesn't say much...and my frustration level is going higher.

Child Welfare Had NO Legal Right

I had posted earlier on this subject, and my suspicions have now been confirmed. Child Welfare in the state of Texas had absolutely NO right to remove the over 400 children from their home.
#1: The children were removed based on an anonymous phone call. There was no factual basis for the action taken by child welfare.
#2: Some of the supposed 'children' are actually adults.
Unfortunately, this ruling that just came down today from the Appellate's Court does NOT rule that the children can be returned to their home. Hopefully, the court will rule quickly on this.
Now, I do not agree with anything that the FLDS practices, especially polygamy or the marrying off of underage children, but what the state of Texas has allowed with the removal of these children is inexcusable. The saddest part is this kind of thing happens every day in all parts of our country. Child Protective Services have been granted too much power and every day remove children from homes with no basis. Because the El Dorado situation was so huge, it attracted national attention. But what about the small families that have no voice?

Lateral Tibial Plateau Fracture
Now that I have all medical records, MRI report and CT Scan report I am more confused than ever.
CT Scan report says: Nondisplaced mildly impacted fracture at the posterolateral corner of the the tibial plateau. Moderate joint effusion.
From all the reading I have since been doing about 'lateral tibial plateau fractures', everything says 'no weight bearing'. Granted, I cannot put full body weight on the leg, but was told by the Orthopedic Doctor five weeks ago to 'go ahead and start putting weight on it with the aid of the crutches.'
The posterolateral corner of the tibial plateau is where the fracture is located, according to the CT report. Yet, the doctor has not even talked about this. Yup, I'm confused. I don't get it. And, yes, I am extremely frustrated.
Physical therapy is slow going and painful. I'm okay with more pain if it's going to improve my condition and mobility of the knee, but with conflicting reports, I am concerned.
Going for a second opinion on Friday. I am praying for some real answers, instead of;
"I don't know." (will I ever be at 100% again?)
"That is irrelevant at this point." (Is the ACL torn?)
Maybe I should just stop reading on the internet. Besides, they use words I am not familiar with to say something simple. Examples?

Knee Injury Update
This is as straight as my left leg can go
Right Knee -little over 13 1/2"
Left Knee: little over 14 1/2"
Sorry to post these unattractive pictures, but almost 9 weeks after my knee injury, I felt it important to document somewhere that I can still not straighten my leg, and that there is still swelling....1" at least. Signicifantly less than immediately after the accident, but swelling is still present.
We had just received copies of my medical records from the Orthopedic Doctor I have been seeing (I am going next week for a 2nd opinion). Several of his statements are inaccurate.
Such as, on my first visit he states the injury is a result of 'a woman fell off a horse, landing against patient (me), knocking her to the ground where she twisted the knee.'
The 'woman' did not 'land against me'....she fell ON TOP of me with her entire body weight landing on my knee. Huge difference.
He also noted there was 'minor' swelling on first visit, and 'no apparent swelling' on my 2nd visit.
Wrong again doc. I have swelling today almost 9 weeks later.
The physical therapist, whom I have seen twice so far, told us that I should be much further along than I am....that I have a very 'hot spot' around meniscus and ACL area....and that we will try therapy for just two weeks, and if no signifcant improvement, he will be shipping me back to the doctor. That was the deciding factor for me....I'm getting a second opinion from a different orthopedic doctor in a different city.
I'm still on crutches, cannot put full body weight on left leg, and cannot bend or straighten my leg.
Frustration all around!

Near Misses
Eight weeks ago a lady falls off a horse, lands on my knee.
Four weeks ago, when the wind was blowing and it was snowing, BlackJack and I came within about 12 inches of being hit by a car. The lady didn't see us, didn't bother to look before backing up her vehicle. Fortunately, with my yelling, she finally did stop coming within a foot of hitting us.
On Monday, as we were getting in the vehicle headed to physical therapy, a golf ball came flying through the air, hit our trailer and landed on the ground just two feet from us.
Yesterday, as I was walking BlackJack, the wind was blowing hard (again), a moving box size cardboard box came flying through the air directly at us. BlackJack saw it first and ran the opposite direction. It blew until it hit the laundry room building when it finally landed.
Of course, the lady falling on me was not a near miss, but rather a direct blow. The other three instances were without a doubt near misses. What is up with that! Three near misses...what do they say? Third time's the charm? I certainly hope so!

Pretty scary stuff....This is exactly why we need to be careful who we put in to office, whether it be our House Representatives or more frightening, the President of the United States.

DNA Frees Yet Another Wrongfully Convicted

Yes, this is another case (different from an earlier post). This poor guy has always claimed his innocence from day 1!
Nobody listened...2 'eyewitnesses' said he did it. Over the years, one eyewitness has recanted. The second eyewitness's testimony was not credible. But that did not stop a zealous prosecutor and a jury from convicting this man to life in prison.
With a big Thank You to The Innocence Project, his innocence has been proved and he is now a free man. Were it not for the hard work and compassion exhibited by The Innocence Project, so many men and women who have been wrongfully convicted would die in prison for crimes they did not commit.
While we listen to Fox News filling the airwaves with the Fed's latest rate cut, Obama's denouncement of his former pastor and fuel prices are going higher.......a man who just spent the last 27 years of his life in prison has finally been proclaimed innocent! Our judicial system failed this man, as it has done with thousands of other men and women.....
But, shhhh! God forbid, they let the news be broadcast on the national media networks. As I said before, that would be an admission of their incompetence and our seriously flawed judicial system. Even the bleeding heart liberals don't seem to give a damn about the injustice being committed in our country.
By the way, this makes the 18th man freed in the State of Texas alone! It doesn't speak very highly of Texas, does it?

Chocolate Croissants
Our daughter made these from a very simple recipe, so I thought I would pass it along. She made them in the morning while getting ready for work.....and took them in to share with her coworkers. She said they were delicious and everybody loved them! So, here is the recipe:
1 package Pillsbury Crescent Rolls
chocolate chips
Unroll crescent rolls and separate. Put 4-6 chocolate chips at wide end of each triangle, roll up.
Bake as directed.
Doesn't get any easier than that, right? She had another suggestion that she is going to try next time: instead of chocolate chips, use strawberry preserves, or cream cheese.
Side note: BlackJack's golf ball count: 21. It's becoming quite the collection.

Sounds to me like the State of Texas may have made an unconstitutional call when they allowed Child Protective Services to remove the children from the compound. Whatever happened to getting all the facts before acting? Oh, that's right, it's Child Protective Services, they can do what they want! Don't be fooled, they do not have the best interest of families in mind. They are funded by our federal government...the more children they place, the more money they get. This year the state of Texas will receive over $736,000 federal funds. Check out their website here to learn more...like the process of 'investigating' before removing a child!

And, once you are in their system, you are most likely there indefinitely....remember the children in Florida that got 'lost' in the system. The State of Florida CPS didn't have a clue where those children were! I bet that problem occurs in several states.
Now CPS in Texas have 462 children scattered all around the State of Texas....separated from siblings, separated from their mothers. It's shameful to say the least.

BlackJack Update...again
Okay, so the picture was taken in February....but Jack hasn't changed...he's still the same size and cute as ever.
We finally decided if he wasn't going to eat anything at all, we couldn't let him starve....so, we started giving him small quantities of chicken or beef....and of course, he ate it!
So, we've been giving him meat (even though the vet said he shouldn't have any), and he has not had any ill effects whatsoever. He gets steak, hamburger, pork chops, lamb and chicken.
I know, he's spoiled, right? Yeah, maybe he is, but at least he's eating, and he seems fine.
One more thing, his golf ball collection at last count is 19, and growing. I found a basket to put them in and they have their place in the living room. BlackJack is okay with them being in the basket, but don't dare touch them....it freaks him out. I have no clue as to what we will do with all of them at the end of summer, as who knows how many he will have collected by that time. I may have to get a larger basket and sell them at $1.00 a piece....maybe use the money for diesel in the truck?

Rattlesnake Hills
The Yakima Valley and surrounding areas are well known for their wineries, and this weekend is the annual Spring Barrel Tasting. A tour of the vineyards and tasting rooms begins at Rattlesnake Hills with 15 wineries; and that's just a small sampling! Visit their website by clicking on the title above.
Sounds like loads of fun, but I don't know about going. Getting around on crutches where there are lots of people can be challenging, plus I feel like I'm slowing everyone down...but we've got a couple days to think about it.

Some would say 'the children have been rescued!' Saved from further possible abuse by the men of the compound? I am all for saving children from abuse. But WHY, WHY did Child Protective Services (CPS) remove 400 children from their mothers? The alleged abusers are the men. Why didn't they remove the men from the compound?
To take the children from their mothers and the only way of life they know is criminal. These children had not been living with Meth addicted parents in flea infested homes. They had been living a simple way of life....what CPS has done is atypical practice.... remove the children with no thought as to the end result. Why? Because they truly don't care.
So, now they've got over 400 children scattered in hundreds of foster homes...as they await DNA results. Which will tell them what? Oh, I know! That a handful of men fathered multiple children with multiple wives! Then what? I know that one, too! They (CPS) will tell us 'we feel it is in the best interest of the children that they not be returned home." Some will get 'lost' in the system, and others just forgotten.
The real tragedy is the psychological harm to these children...they are most likely scared, confused, frustrated and have a lot of questions....questions they will not get answers to.
Child Protective Services is a government entity with too much power....for the sake of the children? They tell us that their job is to keep families together whenever possible. Yet, they yank children from the hands of their parents and toss them in to a system of red tape and bureauacry.

Liberty and Justice for ALL?
The recent story of the man who has been released on bond after serving 26 years in prison for a crime he did NOT commit has me once again fuming with anger.
This time, two attorneys had known for 26 years they had the wrong guy in prison. They even had a written confession from the real killer. Did they come forward with the truth? No. Instead, they locked the confession in a box and hid it under their bed. Only until the real killer died did they bother to step up to the plate. Of course that was TWO YEARS AGO!
Wrongfully convicted men and women are sent to prison every day! For very few, their only hope is from the Innocence Project, a group of law students who volunteer their time and prove innocence. Unforunately, the Innocence Project can only take cases where DNA is involved. For the rest that have been wrongfully convicted, there is very little hope.
The judicial system of our country is seriously flawed. Prosecutors, Attorneys and Judges are looking for career feathers in their hats...cops are looking for anyone to pin a crime on....and juries just want to go home. I have no faith in our judicial system whatsoever....and NO, to say it is the best system we have is a crock. The moment one is accused of a crime, he or she is labeled 'guilty' in the eyes of society and promptly convicted by a jury. There is no "innocent until proven guilty" in our country....unless of course your name is O.J. Simpson, Michael Jackson or Kobe Bryant. Money buys freedom... money is power...the average person doesn't stand a chance.
Of the very few that are lucky enough to have the Innocence Project take their case and prove their innocence, will still never get the lost years back. Their lives have been ruined along with the lives of their families.
Very rarely do these stories make headlines. Wonder why? Oh my, that would be an admission of failure of the very judicial system that wrongfully convicted them.

Last night, we attended a ground breaking ceremony complete with champagne and fresh shrimp. They had the hole already dug on a 2.8 acre parcel of property overlooking the city. Beautiful piece of property with trees already planted around the perimeter.
After the ground breaking, we all toodled off to the country club for dinner. Excellent food, pleasant company....it was a wonderful evening.
I will say this: I am definitely not the 'country club' kind of gal. You could smell the money in the air...you could see it in their appearance. Now, my daughter would have been able to identify the clothing brands, or the purse label....not me. But I could certainly tell everyone was wearing the expensive stuff. Very pleasant people, like I said, but of course, they all know 'when' to smile, 'what' to say.
Last night just confirmed to us again how glad we are doing what we are doing. No thank you to fancy people, client dinners, competition, and talking behind the backs of those you just hugged.
I love our life! Jeans, t-shirt, campfires, uncomplicated and simple. When I go outside in the morning, I listen for the birds, and I can smell the grass. I wonder...do those other people who are wrapped up in their riches ever take the time?

Twin Cafe Caterers in lower Manhattan posted a letter on its deli cooler: “Due to the huge increase of the gas, the electricity, the water and all the other utilities, we had to raise the prices a little bit.” It went on to say that all its food prices have risen, too.
I wonder if we went to our employers with a similar sign, would they give us all raises? Right!
The letter called for an immediate halt to exports and a change in farm policy, “stop paying farmers NOT to grow crops.” A new farm bill, stalled in Congress, would expand farm subsidies if it passes, however.
I never got this one. Why are we paying our farmers to NOT farm?!
But for the poorest U.S. families, the higher costs may mean going hungry...

Water your milk down, expect to go hungry, expect higher prices this year, and 30 million people in Haiti or somewhere are going hungry.
I have an idea. Why not STOP exporting meat and corn to China, India, etc.
Let our farmers do what they do best...FARM.

Land of the Cripples?
The trees in bloom.
It certainly looks like this RV Park is the 'Land of the Cripples'.
We've got an elderly guy here who uses a walker to get around. He had an aneurysm in his stomach that needed to be removed. A seemingly simple procedure, except something went terribly wrong in the hospital and he now has little to no feeling in either leg and will spent the remainder of his life using a walker. Very sad.
The lady across from us is also elderly and must use either a cane or walker to get around. I don't know what the problem is, but considering her age, could be anything.
The assistant manager just had an operation on her foot and is in a cast hobbling around.
Another gentleman gets around with a cane, and it appears his knee is the problem. He's not an old guy, so I'm guessing a knee injury of some sort that never healed properly.
Then there's me with these awful crutches. I am using the exercise bike and was able to do two complete rotations this morning without too much pain. Maybe, with plenty of time my knee will be 100% again....I certainly hope so. I am frankly very tired of all of it.
SIDE NOTE: BLACKJACK NOW HAS 14 GOLF BALLS. On Saturday, #12 came flying through the air and landed on the ground one site from us. And, we are a good distance from the golf course itself. With the luck I've been having, I will probably be the one that gets smacked in the head with one of the fast flying balls! Eek.

Want To Take a Cruise?

This is Norwegian Cruise Lines Blog, and the the post titled 'NCL Cruises to Hawaii' is posted by me. It's all got me thinking about cruising again. What fun!!
We have been on two cruises and I would absolutely love to take another. In my opinion, there is no better way to go on vacation. Think about this....when you go to sleep at night you could be in Aruba...and, then, when you awake the following morning, you are in Curaco. No rental car to think about, no need to worry about where to eat, or what 'touristy' thing to do. The cruise line takes care of everything for you. All that is required of you is to relax and enjoy.
Hmmm.......maybe the southern Caribbean this time.

Got the Exercise Bike
We decided a yard sale would be good place to find a bike for cheap, so we checked the local newspaper and found one!
$50.00 for the bike and quick stop at a bicycle shop for some bearings (for the pedal), it's fixed and cleaned up.
As you can see from the photo, we have a spot inside for it, as unattractive as it looks, but it'll work.
The seat had to be set up really high because I can't begin to make a whole rotation with my knee, but I will start with small partial rotations and work it from there. I'm sure hoping to see great improvements, because as of today I am only able to bend my leg at about 30%.

China Charging Americans More

Of course they are! They've got us right where they want us...dependent on them. We've been buying our products from China for years. Why? Because it's always been much cheaper. American companies have profited in a big way....it's now time to pay the piper.
Sure, we all joke about everything being made in China. Well, I'd say the joke is on us.
Look at Wal-Mart. They have come in to every small town and big city in the U.S. with lower prices than the guy next door. They pushed the mom and pop shops out of the way, leaving themselves as the only kid on the block. Now they can raise their prices AND they have the perfect excuse.
Funny isn't it? Yeah, I don't think we'll be laughing.

BlackJack's Golf Ball Collection
Hey, with a golf course right next door, there's bound to be a few stray golf balls that just happen to land in the dog run area of the RV park, right?
And, with every one BlackJack finds, he brings it home. He has 10 golf balls so far. Callaway, Titleist, are a couple of the brands he's collected. It really is quite cute, because we don't dare touch his golf balls. He's very possesive of them.
Anyway, just wanted to share.
Knee Injury Update
I have been to the doctor today, and he says three more weeks on the crutches. Doesn't look like surgery is necessary. Am happy about that!
He wants to see more mobility and suggested a stationary bicycle. Sure, let me just go to the garage and whip that stationary bike out. Then, I'll bring it in the 'house' so I can use it. I don't have a stationary bike. I don't really have much room in the 5th wheel to put a bike....but guess we'll have to figure that one out. Maybe they can be rented somewhere? He also suggested swimming...swimming is great exercise. Cool. If I knew how to swim. Or if I knew where there was a swimming pool, other than at a gym that I would have to join to use their facility.
And, he doesn't want me to put any more than 20 pounds of weight on the leg. That ain't much! The palms of my hands already hurt like hell from the crutches, they should be real toughened up in another three weeks.
When I return to the Doctor in three weeks and if he's satisfied with my 'mobility', then bye-bye crutches. Yay!!
It has been a month since the accident, so with another three weeks, all in all, two months of this. It could be worse, it could be worse.
Now, if only we could get their insurance company to acknowledge us. The medical bills are coming in....$2,367.00 thus far. And they (insurance company) still do not have a claim opened. Sound familiar? It goes as insurance companies go. You pay, and pay, and pay those premiums....then comes the time when you ask them to pay for the service they have 'supposedly' been providing...that would be THE insurance, and what do they do? Nothing. And what do they say? Nothing.

Customer Service
It is true, with self checkout at the grocery stores, ATM machines at the bank, self serve at the gas station, and the kiosks at airports allowing one to check themselves in for a flight....there are some definite benefits to the customer....but...
Have you ever tracked your UPS package online only to discover the delivery address is incorrect? To correct a mistake like this, a phone call to UPS is necessary. After long wait times on hold, and after pushing several buttons on an automated system you will eventually talk to a real live human being. The problem comes when that 'person' tells you 'no problem, okay, I've corrected the mistake.'.......Two days later your package has still not arrived, you call again, go through the button pushing and waiting, talk to a different person who NOW tells you there is no record of your previous conversation, and 'we are not showing any change in the delivery address.'
Cell phone companies: Frustration at its best! You go in personally to an AT&T store, change your cell phone plan, drop your additional line, they assure you that you are all set! You think all is well......then you get the bill. They've kept the line you wanted dropped, changed it unilaterally to a different plan of their own choosing, and inform you that you were required to give them 30 days notice before dropping the second line. WHAT?? But, we were told we were 'all set!'....So sorry, they say, you were misinformed.
Insurance companies: You submit bills for payment via email and ask for response. One week goes by, no reply. You call them to follow up, talk to some person that tells you your file is in the 'enrollment department.' HUH?? Another week passes, nothing. You call again. They inform you they had mailed a letter to you two weeks ago. HUH?? We have not received anything...can we confirm the address you mailed it to? 'Sure.....'. Guess what? They input the wrong address in their computer! Okay, you ask, what did the letter say? Well, they reply, I will have to request your file and that can take 24 hours or longer...then 'we will call you'. WHAT??!!
Internet providers: My parents just experienced this. Unable to get the internet, for almost 3 months. Call AOL....their customer service is in India or the Phillipines or somewhere where you cannot understand them. They promise to send you a CD that will fix all your problems. You wait, and wait....one month later, no CD. Nothing. Solution? Drop AOL, go with a different provider. Wait a minute? Doesn't AOL stand for AMERICA Online? Yeah, right.

Offroading in Washington
Our little blue jeep doing its thing
Even though I wasn't able to go on the jeep run yesterday, I can still see what it was all about with the pictures someone posted on the web. Don't you just love the internet!
It looks like it was fun! I guess there were only a couple jeeps and mostly 'other' 4 wheeler vehicles, and the terrain is obviously nothing like Arizona.
Now, with a lot of rain....then it would be muddy....now you're talkin'!
By the way, the jeep is getting a new engine...the engine in it now has a lot of miles on it, and is tired. We love our jeep and run it all the time, so a new engine to go with all its other alterations only makes sense.

Spring Has Arrived!
We've got some sunshine and blue sky! It finally feels like Spring...now if only I was able to get out and really enjoy it.
It's been almost a month since I've been walking with crutches, and it feels like forever. This is getting so old and I am tired of not being able to perform the simplest of tasks....
Like cleaning or doing the dishes or even making the bed. Oh, I can do the dishes...it just takes 3 times as long, as I balance myself with the crutches at the sink. And, I can make half the bed, but even then it's not really doing the job right....getting something out of the refrigerator is really tricky...It's hard to take something from the refrigerator, while holding myself with the crutches, and then to balance carefully as I turn to hopefully get the item on the counter and not on the floor....and feeding BlackJack...that one is almost impossible, because first I have to pick his plate up off the floor (which is scary because I'm afraid I'll fall), but then once I manage to get the food on the plate, now I have to drop it from 3 feet on to the floor again, and hope the food stays on the plate as it's flying to the ground. So far, so good. No mishaps as of yet.
I have thought about my father in law, Earl, a lot this past month. How he must have felt after his stroke when he was unable to get around....I always knew he was frustrated, but being frustrated when there was absolutely nothing he could have done to change his situation is so sad...relying on others to do for you...not wanting to burden them to assist you....your pride and self esteem pretty much go right out the window. You feel like a helpless child.
Now I understand why he always insisted on carrying several paper towels, sugar packets for his coffee among other trivial items with him on his walker or wheelchair...it was because he figured if he always had those things close to him, he wouldn't need to bother anyone to get them for him. He was trying to maintain some independence for himself.
Okay, I suppose I will slide out of the trailer and let BlackJack get some fresh air. Poor dog...I know he would love to run and play in the grass....

Oh, Man!!
Okay, so the tulips aren't in bloom, yet....because of an unusually cold winter. Thank you Patty for the email. I will go to the link you mentioned and get the scoop...Like you said, it would not be good to make the trip and be disappointed. That would have been two years in a row.
It's probably best anyway, as I could use more time for my knee to heal. If it will heal, that is. Back to the doctor next week, and I am praying the news will be good....like, no need for crutches, and surgery will not be necessary. I am very tired of getting around with crutches, what a pain. Tulip Festival
Via an email yesterday from an Aunt....the tulips are in bloom!
Maybe, just maybe, I could manage myself and my crutches in to the Volvo and we could take a drive to see them this weekend! Last year we had just missed them, arriving only a few days late.
It is a confirmation of spring and the promise of warm weather when you see fields of yellow, pink and red tulips. Plus, the country roads, older houses, the barns....we gotta go! Perfect example of the joy of fulltiming. There really is so much country to see right here in the good 'ol U.S.A.
When our daughter was almost two years old, we lived in the Seattle area and were able to visit the tulip fields for the first time. However, it was just myself, with both kids and a friend of mine with her son. My husband has NEVER seen the fields.....and he grew up in Washington State!
You just can't visit Washington in the springtime without experiencing the tulip fields.

When our daughter was almost two years old, we lived in the Seattle area and were able to visit the tulip fields for the first time. However, it was just myself, with both kids and a friend of mine with her son. My husband has NEVER seen the fields.....and he grew up in Washington State!
You just can't visit Washington in the springtime without experiencing the tulip fields.

Clarification
Okay, I am told I sound like I am in favor of socialism. To clarify, I am definitely NOT for socialism, and am very much opposed to it. This world has always had the rich and always had the poor; as it has always been intended.
What I AM opposed to however, and what DOES make my blood boil, is the attitude.
Some poor have the attitude that somebody owes them something. A job, a house, a new outfit.
Some rich have the attitude that they deserve more. More money, bigger house, two new outfits.
I believe that most everyone has the opportunity to better themselves. What they choose to do with that opportunity is their choice. What they ultimately do upon arriving at their place in life, after making their choice, whether it be poor, middle class or rich, is what truly defines them as an individual.....need I say more?

Jim Jubak has it right. Read his article above. Obviously, I'm not the only one that feels the Fed is doing this country a grave misjustice. It started with Greenspan and is continuing with Bernanke. They spend countless hours coming up with ways to bail out the big banks, but as Jubak states 'Who's going to rescue the real economy?' Like I mentioned in an earlier post, lending institutions pocketed huge profits a few years ago, by misusing the funds they had available to them.
The ones really struggling are the rest of us, the little guy. We are the ones paying more at the pump, more at the grocery store, more in airline tickets, and more in health costs. Who's going to rescue us? The answer is, nobody. Americans are cutting back as best we can. Food costs have risen 5%, according to the latest numbers, over the past year. Wages are at a negative.
Meanwhile, companies continue to cut wages, layoff employees and send their jobs overseas. AT&T is a prime example of that. An article last week, quoted AT&T as saying, 'they cannot find skilled workers in the U.S.' Think about it. How skilled do you have to be to work at AT&T? There are plenty of Americans that would gladly accept any job. The truth about AT&T is that they can find cheaper labor in third world countries, and that's who they are giving their jobs to. They don't care about giving jobs to Americans, they care about profit. I can understand that. A successful business is all about profit. But, you can't convince me that their profit margin is so small that they cannot afford to pay a menial $30,000 annual salary to an American? Read it here:

Oil Companies. They are pocketing Billions of dollars. Yes, with a capital "B"! Admittedly, I know very little about the 'what's' and 'why's' of oil imports/exports/supply and demand, etc., but it sure seems to me that if our Government can bail out big banks to the tune of $200 Billion, then they certainly ought to be able to put a stop to the madness with the price of fuel. Hell, the oil companies even pick up the tab on a big percentage of their taxes, full medical and their child's education. It's a sweet deal for the employee and their families without a doubt. They are proud to be 'oil workers', living in the lap of luxury and turning up their noses at the U.S. (even though they themselves are U.S. citizens). I wonder how many of their children (american citizens) can recite the Pledge of Allegiance or know our country's National Anthem? They are so absorbed in their jet set lifestyle, they have forgotten where they came from. They've travelled the world and been to countries most of us don't even think about. They actually prefer living in third world countries, because they relish in the fact that others believe them to be wealthy. They love their wealth.
I know, I know, I sound envious. It isn't about envy, but it is about pride. I love my country. I love our freedom, I love the fact that I can worship as I choose. I love that I have the right to carry a firearm, and I love to see our flag flying. I cry every time I hear our national anthem...ask my husband, he loves me because I am emotional. It's compassion as I see honest, hard working americans struggling to make ends meet...and then I see so many walk around like they have a stick rammed up their rearend because they believe they are indeed worthy of the riches bestowed upon them. That is disgraceful.
I honestly am scared for the younger generation like my children and my grandchildren. My son has a wife and 3 children he is providing for. I know his rent continues to go up along with eveything else. His salary is not increasing enough to keep up with it all. All I can see is him struggling to stay ahead, and it gets more difficult every day, I'm sure. I am thankful that both our children have good jobs. I am thankful they both have good work ethics. I can only pray that they spend wisely and not get discouraged. Times are tough and are going to get even tougher.

It's Snowing! But it's the end of March
32 degrees and snowing! The forecast calls for 1" accumulation, which is not too bad, but does not change the fact that it is SNOWING! I would rather be where our daughter is, in Arizona dealing with 80's and 90's...now that is awesome weather!
It won't last long I'm sure and will be melted as quickly as it came, and I must admit, it is pretty.
Now, getting around on crutches while walking BlackJack outside might be tricky, so I will just have to go very slow. I sure don't want to take a spill and hit the ground. Hopefully, just two more weeks of crutches..then maybe the Doctor will say I can get around without them.
Keeping my fingers crossed on that note.

No, They Are Not All 'Scumbags'
The following was sent to me by a friend and is a good case in point about my previous post. This is not the first case of fraud in the Anchorage area regarding Lenders and/or Realtors. Makes one question other cities across the nation.
I made a deragatory comment about realtors, and apologize for grouping them together. Certainly, there are decent agents and decent lenders. A good friend of mine was a real estate agent and she is indeed a person of integrity.
Real estate agent guilty of fraudAnchorage Daily News(03/25/08 00:28:52)
Anchorage real estate agent Michael Sorensen Jr. pleaded guilty to wire fraud in federal court on Monday and surrendered his real estate license, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.
Sorensen, 40, was an associate broker with ReMax Properties Inc. and also owned a local remodeling and construction company, Right Way Construction.
Federal prosecutors said Monday that Sorensen used the construction company to falsely inflate the sales price of local properties from 2004 to 2006 by submitting "false invoices" for repairs and remodeling to title companies, which then prepared false settlement statements reflecting work never done to the properties.
Mortgage companies relied on the false settlement statements when they wired money for the inflated loans to local title companies, according to prosecutors.
The mortgage companies were defrauded and the money that was supposedly used to pay for repairs was instead given back to the buyers in a so-called "cash-back" scheme. Sorensen's indictment in December listed six cash-back deals totaling $137,200 in bogus repairs. Sorensen benefited from the scheme by receiving a higher commission on the property sale, prosecutors said.
In his plea agreement, Sorensen has agreed to pay a fine that will at least equal the amount of commissions he received from the fraudulent deals, according to prosecutors.
His sentencing has been scheduled for May 30, and a maximum sentence could involve 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Now the Fed wants to help Homeowners?!

Let me get my horn! Too little, too late Mr. Chairman!
Where were these people back when unscrupulous lenders were putting people into houses they couldn't afford? Now that foreclosures have reached an alltime high with no end in sight.....they want to tighten lending guidelines? People like Hilary Clinton and the Fed, amongst others, are only hoping to further their own careers in an attempt to 'help' those who are being forced out of their homes. They all pretend like they weren't aware lending practices were questionable. Give me a break!
I knew five years ago that this is where the housing market was headed. I watched every day in my line of work, borrowers being approved for housing loans that were going to be a surefire disaster in a market downturn. Companies like DiTech, Lending Tree, and even big name lenders created this mess we are in today.
Most first time homebuyers trusted their realtor and especially their lender to do right by them. After all, a bank isn't going to approve financing if the borrower doesn't really qualify, will they? You bet they will. And you bet they did!
Adjustable rate mortgages and 80/20 loans gave buyers more buying power, thus, a larger loan. I was told, 'it's creative financing.' It's creative alright. Alot of homebuyers, primarily 1st time buyers do not fully understand what an Adjustable rate mortgage is and they certainly don't understand the ramifications of an 80/20 loan. So, consequently, when the interest rates on those Adj. rate loans went up, and up again, homebuyers were unable to afford their mortgage. And those with 80/20 loans, have two mortgage payments to make, often times with an adj. rate on the 1st one.
Inflated home prices? You betcha! Thank you Mr. Realtor scumbag. The realtors drove the prices up....and the lender made the loan happen. They (realtors and lenders) were pocketing huge profits, smiling all the way to the bank.... but guess who's left holding the bag now that the market has softened? Mr. and Mrs. average, hard working, trying to survive, American.
The Fed has no problem bailing out the failed lending institutions, (creating a bigger deficit) but notice those same lending institutions are not bailing the homebuyers out? Oh, they are offering refinancing options to some qualified borrowers...but now they've made it next to impossible to be a 'qualified borrower.' Despite the fact that they are the one that originally put borrowers in the loan..'sorry, no can help.'
Example: 1st time homebuyer buys a $200,000 home in 2004 with an 80/20 program. They have a $190,000 loan ($1500 1st mortgage payment) and a $10,000 loan ($1,000 2nd mortgage payment). Plus...they put nothing down. Already, they're in too deep, with zero equity, but hey, the lender approved financing, so it must be okay.
Now, it's 2008: The 1st mortgage payment has gone up to $2500 (adj. rate), and the 2nd mortgage payment has gone up to $1500. They now owe $195,000 combined. Unfortunately, their income has only increased 3%....and they have their first child on the way, or maybe their oldest is ready to start college. Oh, yes, and the cost to heat their home has gone up 33% along with gas for their vehicles and rising food costs.
Well, maybe they can refinance and combine both loans into 1 loan? Nope, that won't work because the value of their home has now dropped and is worth only $190,000...so they DON'T qualify for the refinancing option...the rules have changed.
Try again. Maybe they will sell their home and get out from under all of it. No, again. They currently owe MORE on the mortgages, than their house is worth.
Last option: Struggle to make the mortgage payments, cut back on other expenses. But, eventually, they are behind too much, and the bank starts foreclosure proceedings. The Notice gets posted on their house, they've got 90 days or they're out.
And I haven't even touched on Home equity lines of credit! That's a nightmare in itself. Another time. BlackJack wants to go outside and I could use some fresh air.

Is it Fibular or Tibia..or Both?
I am going on two weeks with this knee injury. Xrays, MRI, CT Scan, and seeing an Orthopedic Surgeon on Wednesday. Maybe then we will know something, anything.
All I know is I cannot walk on it, it hurts, my foot is tingly, and I hate being housebound.
But, the very worst part is being dependent on someone else. Ol' Earl, Jr. has been fantastic...he's been cooking all the meals, doing all the dishes, vacuuming, making the bed, doing the laundry, the shopping, walking the dog....and going to his job all day, every day.
I know he feels the pressure, but he's not complaining. I Love him for it. He even still managed to get the air locker installed in the jeep yesterday!
Keeping my fingers crossed that Wednesday's appointment brings a final diagnosis so we can get on with the treatment and I can get back to my life!

Americans Cutting Back

Sure, I would say most Americans are cutting back on things like groceries, dining out, and weekend trips. With the rising cost of fuel and food, we really have no other choice. Of course, the ones being hit the hardest are the low to middle income families.
Big corporations, and even small businesses have raised prices on their products to offset the increases. Unfortunately, the little guy is the one that those increases are being passed onto. I really feel for the young working couples with families. The cost to survive continues to escalate at about 33%, yet their incomes are either not going up at all or minimally at a lousy rate of maybe 3-5%. How are they making it?
Cut out the internet access, cable TV, shop generic brands instead of name brands. Car pool to work, take public transportation. But is it all really enough? And, more importantly, is it right that our Government COULD put a stop to some of this madness, yet they don't?
I am not in favor of big government, and I am almost embarassed at this point to admit I voted for George Bush. But, this insaneness (is that a word?) needs to stop. Meanwhile, the Fed keeps cutting interest rates, our government is bailing out lending institutions and our President is saying "our economy is just going through some adjustments." Adjustments, hell! Our economy has been tanking for years. I'm no brainiac, but I've seen this coming for at least 5 years.
The rich (the oil companies) are getting richer, and the poor (the average American) are getting poorer. And nobody gives a damn.
Obama is focused on talking about his poor, sorry black racist ass....Osama is running free in Pakistan....Bush has created another Vietnam in Iraq....Britney Spears continues to be the role model for our grandchildren by being a trampy, slutty piece of flesh, and her 16 year old pregnant sister became a superstar BECAUSE she got pregnant at 16! Remember when girls would be ashamed if they got pregnant at 16?
Obama: Your 'pastor' made his famous sermon in 2001! Now, in 2008, 7 years later, the whole world knows what he said, that's when YOU decide his comments were uncalled for.

Cut out the internet access, cable TV, shop generic brands instead of name brands. Car pool to work, take public transportation. But is it all really enough? And, more importantly, is it right that our Government COULD put a stop to some of this madness, yet they don't?
I am not in favor of big government, and I am almost embarassed at this point to admit I voted for George Bush. But, this insaneness (is that a word?) needs to stop. Meanwhile, the Fed keeps cutting interest rates, our government is bailing out lending institutions and our President is saying "our economy is just going through some adjustments." Adjustments, hell! Our economy has been tanking for years. I'm no brainiac, but I've seen this coming for at least 5 years.
The rich (the oil companies) are getting richer, and the poor (the average American) are getting poorer. And nobody gives a damn.
Obama is focused on talking about his poor, sorry black racist ass....Osama is running free in Pakistan....Bush has created another Vietnam in Iraq....Britney Spears continues to be the role model for our grandchildren by being a trampy, slutty piece of flesh, and her 16 year old pregnant sister became a superstar BECAUSE she got pregnant at 16! Remember when girls would be ashamed if they got pregnant at 16?
Obama: Your 'pastor' made his famous sermon in 2001! Now, in 2008, 7 years later, the whole world knows what he said, that's when YOU decide his comments were uncalled for.

Tibial Plateau Fracture
Yesterday morning I went for an MRI and they called that evening with the results. Now they want to do a CT Scan as the MRI indicates a possible Tibular Plateau Fracture, in layman terms that means a possible fracture of the shin bone. From what I have read on the internet, there are three treatment methods depending on the location of the fracture. A long leg body cast, which could mean four months in a cast (goodbye summer!), putting a rod in the leg, or plates and screws. None of the three sound very pleasant to me. This all truly sucks!
I never even wanted to go to the training thing, why did I? If I had not gone, I would not be layed up, unable to walk, and I would most likely be working at the market down the street, which is what I REALLY wanted anyway! I vow from here on out, to NEVER do anything I don't want to do, no matter what. No more trying to appease someone, no more trying to please someone. If I really really do NOT want to do something it's not going to happen.
Now, I am not bringing in any income, am causing more work for my husband and, it is not fair to BlackJack who would like to go on his long walks and play outside. Instead, we are both cooped up inside for who knows how long. This is not just affecting me, and that is what bothers me the most.
I know, it could be worse. I know that lots of people are far worse off than I am, and I certainly am thankful for the good health I have.

Torn Ligaments, possibly surgery, eek!
Spent a couple hours at the doctor yesterday with my knee problem. The news was not good. Two torn ligaments, one on the outer side, one on the inner side. The doctor suspects the ligament under the kneecap is torn, but can only determine that by doing an MRI. That will be scheduled next week. If suspicion proves to be accurate, surgery would be recommended. Ugh.
One pair of crutches, one knee sleeve, and 4 weeks to 6 months of hobbling around. Definitely NOT priceless. I am so bummed. I was trying to get a job at the convenience store just down the street.....as ironic as things have been, the guy called me the day AFTER my accident wanting me to walk down and talk to him about a job. I would have LOVED to have been able to walk, period. Shoot. I feel like a completely helpless individual, dependent on someone else for simple tasks.

Knee injury
There is an organization here called The Pegasus Project. They make it possible for children with disabilities such as Down Syndrome and Autism to have the opportunity to ride a horse. It is an incredibly successful program providing therapy to the children, building their self esteem and fostering independence. The horses used in the program are mild tempered, older horses that have been trained specifically to aid the children in the therapy.
Pegasus Project is funded on Government grants and relies on volunteers to assist the children while riding and lead the horse. I attended the training program for volunteers yesterday.
All was going well, with a powerpoint presentation, a tour of the facilities and finally a hands on training for emergency dismounts.
When it was my turn, I stood next to the horse with my hands in the proper positions to assist the instructor who was on the horse. My job was to 'cradle' her as she dismounted the horse. As she came off the horse, she slipped a bit, I was unable to catch her completely and we both ended up on the ground with her on top of my left knee. Ouch! To say the least...the pain was excruitiating and I knew I was definitely hurt.
I knew immediately I could not stand right up, as I could feel my knee and below twisted. Within a few minutes, she helped me to my feet. I limped over to the 'block' and sat down while they proceeded to finish the exercise. I was seeing 'stars' and felt lightheaded, so a few minutes of sitting still was definitely a good idea.
So, as my knee began to swell up, and I was unable to put pressure on the leg, some ice and keeping my leg up was in order. This morning, the swelling is still substantial and even limping is difficult, so as much as I hate the thought, looks like I will have to pay a doctor a visit.
What an awful feeling to be dependent on someone else for walking the dog, or making the bed. I am not one to whine about pain, but I have to say this is no fun. Hopefully, the doctor can give me some anti-inflammatory medicine and maybe a pair of crutches, so at a minimum, I will be able to get around on my own.

I only wish all the chinese, arabs, mexicans, koreans, would just stay out of our country. If their countries are so wonderful, then why are they clamoring to come to ours?
I wish our country had not sold out to China - Thank you Bill Clinton! It is next to impossible to find any product anywhere on the shelves of any store in the U.S. that is NOT 'Made in China'.
I wish the liberals of our country would stop with the 'we need to welcome them with open arms', and 'the United States is the melting pot for all who want to come' rhetoric.
Go to Las Vegas and you will think you stepped in to China.
Visit Miami, and you will believe you are in Cuba.
Take a trip to Detroit, and behold, you will be swimming in a sea of muslims.
Go to Phoenix, Seattle, Dallas, Wichita, Minneapolis, and every small town in between. Did someone say Mexico? They are literally in every crook and cranny of OUR country, speaking THEIR language, not ours. They are living on our social programs while we pay their way and they send money home to their country. They are pushing their agendas in our schools and workplaces while we just sit back and shake our heads.
Wal-Mart in Detroit has just unveiled a new store offering the Arabs every product from consumables to clothing just like they could get in their own country. Oh, the Arabs in that city are thrilled. One lady was quoted as saying, "I just love it, I feel like I'm in my own country." Okay, lady, if it gives you such a warm, fuzzy feeling about home, then please go back to where you came from! I don't want to see Arab food in my Wal-Mart. I want to see corn on the cob, rib eye steak, white bread and Hershey's chocolate bars.
Wal-Mart in dozens of other U.S. cities now have for example an entire aisle of greeting cards in spanish, DVD's in spanish, not to mention the aisles of Latino, Mexican and Asian foods specifically catered to the Latinos, Mexicans and Asisans.
When I needed three ultrasounds and two mammograms, I had to pay for them. When I have surgery, I will need to pay for it. If any of these foreigners who are in our country illegally need any kind of medical treatment, I get to pay for that, too!
This country has been traveling down the wrong road for a long time, and it is only going to get worse.

It's Time to do some 4X4 Trails!
I don't have new pictures to post yet, mainly because I've been forgetting to take our camera when we go out, but Butch has been busy with repairs and upgrades to our jeep.
What he's got done so far:
- Repaired exhaust leak
- New muffler
- New to us Seats - He found some skookum seats at a salvage yard that came off a 2004 Chevy Cavalier. They are so much more comfortable and make the Jeep look much better
- New fabric and window for the driver's side
- New mirror for the inside
- Purchased an air deflator - to let some air out of the tires when off road.
What he's planning:
- Roll cage
- Re-install locker
I know he's got much more in mind, because he's been on practically every jeep site and forum. I just am not privvy to all the details. This area is fantastic for Jeep clubs and tons of offroad trails, so I am excited about getting out there. (Hope he's planning to take Jack and I along).
Our little blue jeep has been so much fun since we bought it in Sedona. It has been to Baja, countless jeep trails in Arizona, plus it is our daily mode of transportation. Might even be time for a new engine

Yakima it is.
In uploading the picture of our rig today, I
noticed this photo of BlackJack from a couple
weeks ago...basking in the sun.
We arrived two days ago in Yakima. The trip was good....uneventful. We planned our drive through Cabbage Patch so that we would avoid the snow in the forecast.
Yakima is a much larger city than either of us anticipated. We don't usually spend any length of time in cities, so our time here will be interesting. We will be looking for the off-road trails and country roads, which I'm sure there are plenty of in this area.
Apparently, Yakima is known for their wineries, which we also didn't know....and is right up our alley! Agriculture is a major industry here...apples, raspberries, strawberries.
A drive around the city and a visit to the place Henry will be working was on our agenda yesterday.
Side note: A Class A MH is sounding better and better every day.

Las Vegas, Baby!!

I just noticed that I had not put up a picture of the drycamping spot we found south of Havasu, so here it is. Click on it to see how awesome it really is!
Today we drove about 75 miles, (tough day, right?) to Las Vegas. Our original plan was to stay in Laughlin for a few days, but when we got to Laughlin this morning, we couldn't come with any real reason to stay, so we toodled on down the road, and arrived in Vegas around noon.
Now, Vegas has very few choices for RV parks, but I found the one we are at on the internet. And for $17.00/night with full hookups, why not? The place is downtown and called Main Street Station. Sites are plenty long enough to accomodate us, but not a lot of room for a big rig like ours when leaving.....and the fire department is right next door...but still, $17.00 a night!
We will experience Fremont Street tonight, and stay out of the casino. (We left our small pittance at the last casino we were at)

Avi Resort & Casino
Whew! Big day we had yesterday! I think we drove all of 40 miles. Final destination, the Avi Resort and Casino.
They have a fantastic drycamping area for RVer's. Level, large, and FREE. RVer's are welcome to stay as long as they'd like, you just have to register with the folks inside.
The Casino is very large and offers most everything anyone could possibly want. They have a beach....Yes! with palapas and sand! Swimming pool, of course, their own movie theatre with several theatres, playing new movies. Free video poker tournaments, free bingo sessions every day, .99 cent complete ham and eggs breakfast, an italian restaurant, mexican restaurant, a Subway, chinese food, and the typical restaurants with the buffet....
We managed to give them some money last night....we signed up for the video poker tournament, and today, we even played some Bingo.
Weather is great....and as always, in our fulltiming world, life is good!!

Remains of an old mining camp
The Nellie E. Saloon (Desert Bar) is situated in the Buckskin Mountains, on land that was an old mining camp. The camp was located on the portion of land that is now the parking lot. When the owner acquired the land in 1975, there was nothing left of the mining camp. With the land and a liquor license from an old business on leased river land, Ken (the owner) decided to give the bar in the desert idea a try. In 1983, he opened for business. The Nellie E. was not totally completed until 1988. The inside of the saloon has windows that are old glass refrigerator doors, the bar stools are made of steel and sway from side to side. The top of the bar is brass, and the ceiling is made of stamped tin purchased from a factory in Missouri. The saloon is powered by solar, stored in batteries and run through inverters. (The above information is from a flyer we got from the bar).
This place is pretty darn cool!! We arrived at the Desert Bar by way of the Buckskin Mountains jeep trail, 5 1/2 miles long. Most people take the easy, graveled road, obviously, from Hwy. 95.
They serve drinks, hamburgers (only $3.00!), and nachos. They sell T-shirts, AND they
even have a live band. The bar is open only on the weekends from Labor Day through Memorial Day. They are open one night only on New Years Eve, IF it falls on the weekend. Wouldn't that be a blast!!

We decided on another jeep trail, Buckskin Mountain. The trail is rated 'moderate', and I guess we would agree. Some areas had some definite rocky stretches, in other words, all rock, and some rather large in size. But no problem.
The cool thing about this trail is that it ends at a place called the Desert Bar. Or as orginally referred to as Nellie's Saloon. A bar in the middle of nowhere. I will post pictures tomorrow of that along with the history. I think I may have used more bandwith this evening than I should have.
